Questions
How much is a private boat trip in Hurghada?
A private speedboat usually costs €89 to €394 for the boat, for a trip of a few hours; a big day boat for your group €178 to €806. Split across six people, a private speedboat comes to about €28 each, against €21 to €125 for a seat on a shared boat.
What is included?
The boat, the captain and crew, and snorkel gear on most boats. Lunch, hotel pickup and the Giftun park fee (operators quote about €5 to €10 a person, in cash) vary by boat: you see them before you pay, never as a surprise on board.
How far are the islands?
Giftun island and Orange Bay are about 25 minutes from Hurghada Marina by speedboat. The map above shows each island and reef with its time.
What if the wind closes the port?
The Red Sea Ports Authority closes the harbours when the wind gets strong (on 20 March 2025, for example, at 24 to 30 knots). If that happens on your day, you get a free new date or your deposit back.
Do we need our passports?
Bring your passport or a photo of it: boats leaving the marina carry a passenger list for the checkpoint. You fill in the details once, before the trip, so nobody waits at the gate.
Can we see dolphins?
Bottlenose and spinner dolphins often rest at Dolphin House, the Shaab El Erg reef north of Hurghada, but sightings are never guaranteed. Under HEPCA's rules boats keep 30 m away and stay out of the lagoon, swimmers wear fins, mask and a life jacket, and nobody touches, chases or feeds the dolphins.
Is it good for kids?
Yes. Ask for a boat with shade and a ladder. Boats we list must carry life jackets in kids' sizes. Glass-bottom boats show the reef without swimming.
How do we pay?
A small deposit online holds the boat. You pay the rest on board, to the captain, in cash or by card.
